Reflections

Throughout these last couple of weeks I have found that it helped me realize the amount of technology I actually use. Before this class I totally disregarded the amount of technology I used but this helped me realize, and started to make a difference in the amount I used, It helped me by letting me realize that I have to stop using it so much. I think it is important to have media literacy because it helps you notice all of the true and false things in the media we see every day. It gives you a sense of being smarter because so much of the world is consumed by media so if you know a lot in media you are learning very day 21st century traits. It is important to be an educated consumer because if you are not educated then you can be scammed, or you can not get the full story of an advertisement if you are not educated. After keeping this log I was able to take a big break form media every once in a while, it let me spend more time with my family and friends. And it feels so much better to take a break than to be on it even when I go on family trips. Now after learning so much on media literacy I can be so much more involved, and still feel as if I am aware of what is going on in our everyday media.

Girls Miss Treated

Seeing what the media does to women is horrible because even in commercials they show photo shopped images of a perfect body why truly it is impossible to get. This lets women feel insecure because they try so hard to reach that point when the truth is there really is no way to do so. These advertisement are using fake body forms to try and sell their products, then when the girl consumer buys them they are unsatisfied with them because they are not able to look like the women in the advertisement. Study's find that majority of girls are depressed and concerned about their bodies and of how they will never be able to live up to the high standard that the advertisement company's give them to live by. 

Miss Representation

After watching this film it made me realize how bad our world is today, and how terrible the stereotype is pushed upon the later generations. Women are being put to such a high standard that it is really unfair in today's world, it must be so hard for some that is famous because they have to be put through these tough times where they are judged so deeply on everything they do. It is so bad that it makes young girls do bad things to themselves like cutting, starving themselves etc. I just think it is wrong for people to be judged on being themselves.

Merchants Of Cool

I really enjoyed watching this video because even though it was filmed such a long time ago it represented us in present day. Advertisement for companies base everything  off of their buyers and what the new trends are if something is not in style already the company takes a big risk on selling it because they don't know whether or not it will be bought. Typically when a company just starts to get the trend it will only stay in for around a month because people now day are looking for new and different they don't want to be categorized as copying someone, they want to be know for someone who started that new trend. It's amazing how if you start something and people like it how fast it will spread through out the world  just by the touch of a button on media.

Over winter break  I did many things. But is some cases a lot of them had to do with media, for example my friends and I went to Sacandia to go play mini golf, and we all were on our phones and only giving half attention to the accrual game. Later that break my family and I went to the snow and rented a cabin, I was so happy to hear that there was Wifi and that it had tv. Then the second night while we were there, there was a huge blizzard that took out all of the power on the block. Before the power outage literally everyone was on their phones and being anti social and when it happened we found riddle books and played board games which happened to be really fun because it was pitch black and we were able to tell scary stories. hanging out with my family for me at least was more fun than playing on my phone and it taught me something, that I should always put family first and we should everyone and a while put away our devices and socialize.

Now in this century everyone one is trying as hard as they can to come out with newer electronic products so they can be the next big thing. Recently a movie box came out that allows you to get all free movies something kind of like Napster where  people work together and program something so that everyone can use it for free. This box is called kodi and it is able to get free movies in HD quality even the ones in the theaters and it streams live tv. Many things like this product have been coming out recently and it puts a strain on movie production because if everyone ends up getting this boxes then there will be no need for people like Comcast and Ondemand.

 Recently Iv been seeing how much media I have been consuming and how it is taking up too much of my time. Over the weekend on Friday after I got of work my mom took me to go get some food and we decided to go to Tower Cafe. While we were there I noticed that instead of talking to each other and socializing we were both on our phones and thankfully I thought to myself of how sad that was I put my phone away and put her phone on the table and I made me remember of how when I was little and we actually socialized. Looking back at it feels so degrading because I am with my family only so many hours in the day and with the times that I am spending  with them I am on my phone updating on my friends statuses. And also on Saturday I went with my friends and we drove to the theaters  and saw the new Star Wars,  (which was pretty good, but it leaves you on a big cliffhanger) I thought that, that wasn't media but looking back at it it is so I  also spent a good two hours with my friends watching media.

The way I see it is that it is two sided good and bad. It gives everyone something to do but it has a down fall it makes you less sociable.
